Choose Clothing for Photos that Represent You Well

Would you like help with What to Wear for Headshots?

Even if you’re not planning a headshot right now, these tips apply to more than just photoshoots. Whether you’re attending a special event, a wedding, a family gathering, or any outing where you want to feel and look your best, choosing the right outfit makes all the difference.

A Few Key Things to Keep in Mind:
●    Color and comfort matter. You should feel great in what you wear, not just look the part.
●    Fit is everything. The best outfit is one that works with your body and moves well.
●    Choose what delights you. Sometimes we pick clothing because it fits an image, but the best choice is one that feels right and works with the camera.
●    A second opinion helps. A trusted friend (or me!) can offer an objective eye to help you avoid clothing that looks amazing on a mannequin but doesn’t quite fit you.

I’ve seen beautiful outfit choices that, while striking on a hanger, don’t translate well to real life or photos. You shouldn’t wear clothing that feels like a costume—instead, wear what truly represents you.

One of my clients, Pinky, is a perfect example. She looks incredible in bright pink. For one of her headshots, she chose her favorite fuchsia top, and the result was stunning. Not only did the photos capture her vibrancy, but you could see how confident and powerful she felt in an outfit that reflected her.

Dressing for successful photos—or any important moment—should honor who you are. If you’re attending an outdoor event, four-inch heels and a white pantsuit might not be the best choice, especially if it’s rained recently.

We all know these things, but sometimes we get stuck trying to match an image instead of embracing our own power and voice through our clothing.
